Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, I have felt very disconnected from myself, my surroundings, and my peers. I constantly feel like I am missing something, or something is missing from me. Generally, throughout all of my work, I tap into these emotions, but this time it feels different. These feelings of loneliness and emptiness feel more tangible. This “lack of” is more real and more suffocating. I have been driving and walking more in an attempt to connect to my immediate world a little more. On these drives and walks, I have come across signs that used to be occupied. These vacancies remind me of the way that I am feeling. They strike a melancholy chord within me, something that I cannot entirely explain. But I am very drawn to this feeling.
